CALM UNDER PRESSURE
GROUP WORKSHOP

Controlling our body’s response to stress and pressure enables us to get in the zone and focus on our performance without being overloaded by thought. Our Calm Under Pressure workshop teaches you how to accept stress and use it to enhance your mindset and improve your physical and mental strength.

Equipping you with scientifically-proven skills that you can easily understand and use in everyday life, the course culminates in the ultimate test of your ability to remain calm under pressure: cold water immersion.

Class outline

Calm Under Pressure is the culmination of our 20+ years’ experience in high-pressure, high-stress situations, as intensive care paramedics (Dave was also a professional ocean lifeguard).

Merging everything we’ve learned on the job with our expertise in peak-performance training, the Calm Under Pressure workshop equips you with advanced physical and mental skills to handle stress and keep your mind clear and resilient when you’re performing under pressure, whether that’s as an athlete, in the boardroom, or in the office.

The workshop is a unique combination of theory-based knowledge and practical application, that will teach you:

  • How to control your autonomic nervous system, improving your ability to adapt your behaviour and transition between energized and relaxed states.

  • The role of stress in shaping your response to challenging situations and how to control its effects on the body and mind.

  • Techniques to stay calm despite extreme tension and discomfort.

  • How to use visualisation and mindfulness to achieve peak performance.

  • How to perform during crucial moments by avoiding overthinking.

  • How to include controlling your breathing and nervous systems into regular training.

“The quality of your thinking, and therefore, your ability to make decisions under pressure and beat the competition, is dependent on the quality of your physiology.” - Dr. Alan Watkins (leadership and human performance expert)

Putting it into practice: cold water immersion

To truly test participants' ability to remain calm under pressure, we give you an introduction into cold water immersion at the end of the workshop.

Immersing your body in ice cold water is one of the most intense stimuluses you can expose it to, activating our inbuilt survival-stress response. Everything is telling you to get out of the water!

In the ice bath you’ll see how you can combine the skills you’ve learned to control your physiological and psychological responses to acute stress and keep your composure.
